Cactus care

There’s no question that house plants enhance the overall appeal of an interior, but it takes constant effort to keep them alive and looking good. However, cacti are very self sufficient plants that require very little attention – which makes cactus care relatively effortless.

Here are some helpful tips on cactus care:
• Place the plant in direct sunlight
• The optimum soil should be a mix of sand, peat and perlite
• Repotting or moving the plant will make it more susceptible to rot
• Inspect the plant for cuts or rot; remove the areas if necessary to save the rest of the cactus.

Watering is a tricky part of cactus care. Some species of cacti only need to be watered three times a year, some more frequently. The rule that most experts agree on is that cacti should not be watered during their dormancy, which usually coincide with the winter months.
